Yesterday, we had the pleasure of welcoming Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management Barry Madlener to our site in Rotterdam, where together with Power2X we are developing a world-scale eSAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel) hub.
His visit provided a valuable opportunity to discuss the potential of producing eSAF at industrial scale in the Netherlands. We are enabling the aviation sector’s transition to net-zero, while reinforcing the foundation for a competitive and resilient energy industry in the Port of Rotterdam.
Our eSAF facility will be powered by green methanol imported from regions with abundant and low-cost clean energy, such as Spain, Portugal, Scandinavia, India and the Americas. By leveraging Rotterdam’s unique infrastructure and existing petrochemical cluster, we can competitively provide low-carbon fuels to energy-intensive sectors like aviation.
This initiative is more than a single project: it’s a strategic stepping stone toward developing a methanol import and processing industry that can future-proof the fuels and chemicals sector in Rotterdam and beyond.
We thank the Minister for his visit and valuable dialogue, and we look forward to continued collaboration with policymakers in helping the Netherlands lead the way in the energy transition.
